About The Karlie Family Tree
Welcome to the Karlie Family Tree of Altoona, Pennslyvania, United States.

William (Wilhelm) Karli(e) along with his wife Maria Katharina Kundert immigrated to the United States in 1900 from Rüti, Zürich, Switzerland. They, along with other members of their family, settled in Altoona, Pennsylvania. At present there is little known about Wilhelm or his ancestors other than being from Zufikon, Aargau, Switzerland. Maria's family was from Rüti, Glarus, Switzerland. Her family is well documented and holds many surprises.

The original Swiss name was spelled "Karli". The "e" was added after the Karli's immigration to America. It is unknown if this was by choice or by translation. There are Karli's from Zufikon who immigrated and did not change the spelling.

Along with the Karlie linage are those of Fay Fagley, Mary Sager and James McCartney. All of these lines are filled with interesting ancestors. There are many notable people in their own right. Some of prominence are Dougle (Dougal) McCartney (original settler of what is now known as Altoona), his grandson Dougle (Dougal or Douglass) E. McCartney and Thomas Coleman. Each are documented in books about the region. You will find Thomas Coleman's descendants in both the Fagley and McCartney lines.

Some books of interest are:

The Coleman Brothers: Revolutionary War Militiamen, Pennsylvania and (West) Virginia Pioneers and Their Descendants, by Georgia Kratzer Allen (only one edition and very hard to come by). My brother and I are listed in this book on the McCartney side of the family. The Karlie's are not listed in this book, though we are descendants through the Fagley, Yingling line.

PEN PICTURES OF FRIENDS AND REMINISCENT SKETCHES, by TILLARD, J. N. - includes biographies of Thomas Coleman, Dougle E. McCartney and several mentions of the original Dougle McCartney.

A PARTIAL HISTORY OF THE CROSSMAN-KRESSMAN-CRESSMAN-CRISSMAN-CRISMAN FAMILY, Supplement 2-1, Revised and Up-dated 1981, by Many Cousins

Tracing and documenting one's genealogy is no small task. I have tried to be true to our families and ancestors by only adding what are considered documented facts. Though, there is no way to know that all information presented here is completely accurate. Should you find any errors please message me through the contact page so corrections can be made.

If you have pictures, documents, memories or any other items you would like to share please send me a message so they can be included. Also, if you are aware of any ancestors or descendants who are not represented please let me know. I have not got far with our, current day, second cousins. All of whom I wish to capture. Everyone's help in this endeavor is appreciated and welcome.

Best Regards,

T. Karlie
